Reel Love: The Time Traveller's Wife
18/03/2010

Just like true love, the perfect romantic movie is hard to come by.  Of course, like any self-respecting romantic film lover, our standards are pretty high when it comes to finding "The One".  The lead characters must share an amazing chemistry, they must overcome insurmountable odds to be together, and the final kiss scene must be so passionate, so magical, it physically takes our breath away.

So to celebrate the release of The Time Traveller's Wife - a sweeping tale of two lovers destined to be together but separated by time and space - we decided to take a look at some of the most romantic movies of the last three decades.

The Notebook

Ryan Gosling.  Rachel McAdams.  It's a match made in heaven in this story of star-crossed lovers forced apart by family, wealth and responsibility.  A movie guaranteed to pull at the heartstrings and make you believe that true love is possible.

Jerry Maguire

The story of a sports agent fired for having a moral epiphany may not sound particularly romantic, if at all, but don't let that fool you.  There are some memorable scenes and quotes here that go beyond a shirtless Cuba Gooding Jr. yelling "Show me the money".  The movie certainly takes a turn for the romantic.  You had us at hello, Jerry.  Sigh.

An Officer and A Gentlemen

Oh Richard Gere, you charming, handsome rogue!  If ever there were a man who looked better in a military uniform than you, well...we're yet to see it.  You can keep your well-shined shoes under our bed anytime!

Ghost

Dabbling at pottery has never been sexier or more iconic than with this classic love scene. Play "Unchained Melody" and throw in lots of messy clay.  Cue Patrick Swayze, ditto Demi Moore.  Unforgettable.

Titanic

Of course, everyone knows what happened to the Titanic on April 15th, 1912, but this epic tale has so much more...and that is epic story of a lower-class artist and a high society woman who share a love as big as the ship they sail.
